    Halloween Safety Tips

    One of the thrills of being a homeowner is being creative with outdoor seasonal decorations.  During the Halloween season, there are so many choices of decor, ranging from ghoulishly goofy to gruesome.  As you position the pumpkins on the front porch and find power sources for your lights and fog machine, be sure to practice some of these safety tips to ensure a Happy Halloween for all.  First, keep the porch lights on and consider motion-sensor lights for other areas that may be too dark for trick-or-treaters.  Second, use outdoor cable and cord covers to minimize a trip hazard.  Third, be sure to sweep your driveway and other walkways, making them free from debris, which could potentially cause injury.  Fourth, use battery operated, flameless candles in order to reduce the risk of fire.  Be sure to fix any loose steps or a wobbly railing.  Finally, keep your pets away from the front entrance, so they do not accidentally run out of the house or scare the trick-or-treaters.  Practice these safety tips and be sure to share them with your friends and neighbors for a safe Halloween.

    Attending an Open House this weekend has its benefits.  First, buyers have an opportunity to realistically see what they can afford in the housing market.  Second, you will have the opportunity to ask your real estate related questions to a licensed realtor.  Third, you will be able to drive through the neighborhood or perhaps walk the community to see if it feels like home.  Finally, you will learn more about your needs with regard to amenities once you actually preview homes.  For instance, after visiting several single family homes, you may decide you actually prefer a townhome, where maintenance such as lawn-care and snow removal is included.  Now that I’ve convinced you to attend a few open houses this weekend, here are some tips on etiquette.  You may be asked to remove your shoes or wear shoe guards, which should be provided by the agent.  Be sure to follow the “sign-in” instructions and introduce yourself to the realtor.  If other perspective buyers are present, respect their privacy and give them some space.  Here is a list of Open Houses scheduled for this weekend (9/28 and 9/29)…have fun!
